Overview
The Harmar AL500HD is a power wheelchair specific vehicle lift. The AL500 has been one of our most popular power wheelchair lifts due to its functionality, quality features, and durability for larger power wheelchairs including some complex rehab chairs. The AL500HD is also popular due its ability to be compatible with a very wide range of vehicles as well as styles and sizes of power wheelchairs. No modifications need to be made to your power wheelchair to use on the AL500HD. The AL500HD will work with both Class II and Class III hitches. Four self-tensioning, quick release retracting straps with hooks securely hold your power wheelchair to this lift.
What Makes This Different:
The wide range of adaptability to many sizes and styles of power wheelchairs is what sets the AL50HD0 apart. The AL500HD can accommodate wheelchairs from the size of a travel power wheelchair, to full size power wheelchairs, and all the way up to smaller heavy-duty models. The flat, full size deck allows the AL500 to work with mid-wheel, front wheel, and rear wheel drive power wheelchairs. Operation is very easy with a one-switch operation. A manual crank provides backup in case the power source fails.
Why We Like It:
The AL500HD is highly adaptable and firmly secures your power wheelchair for easy transport. The large aluminum deck folds up against the back of your vehicle when not in use making it easy to get your vehicle in your garage. When the deck is unloaded and in the folded position, the lift extends just 12" behind the bumper. The Swing-Away option provides easy access to the trunk or lift gate of any vehicle that can support a Class III hitch. The swing away option will add just 2” of length behind the lift is folded up.
Securement Device
Using automatic retractors the AL500HD can secure virtually any power chair. The retractors can be attached to your chair by two methods. One method uses a spreader bar that slides between the seat and seat post, which has provisions for the retractors. If there is no seat post, the other method uses metal loops that attach to the frame of the chair. Both methods add only a few ounces of weight to the chair and have been extensively tested to ensure complete security. They can be removed without damaging a chair.
